Lakeside Lutheran Church traces its beginnings to 1910, when members of a small Lutheran congregation purchased the former Colonel Howe Estate, a stately pre‑Civil War home, to establish a permanent place of worship. The building’s story nearly ended in 1932, when it was condemned by the state. Instead of letting it fade from Kenosha’s landscape, the congregation rallied with local contractors to save it. Their ambitious restoration transformed the old mansion into the beautiful Italian Gothic sanctuary visitors see today — a testament to determination, craftsmanship, and community pride.

A Bell Tower with a Voice

One of Lakeside Lutheran’s most distinctive features is its functioning bell tower, home to three bells crafted by the renowned Petit‑Fritsen Bell Foundry in the Netherlands. Installed in 1954, these bells have welcomed worshippers, marked celebrations, and echoed across the neighborhood for more than 70 years. Their sound is part of the church’s identity, a familiar voice woven into the rhythm of life near the lake.

Recognized as a City of Kenosha Historic Landmark in 1991, Lakeside Lutheran has continued to evolve while honoring its past.
