Where Kenosha’s Bright Young Leaders Begin Their Journey
Every thriving community invests in its future, and in Kenosha, one of the most exciting places where that future is taking shape is the Kenosha Emerging Leaders Academy (KELA) — a space built entirely around possibility.
Located in the heart of Uptown, KELA is far more than a building. It’s a launchpad where young people discover their strengths, build career‑ready skills, and gain the confidence to pursue bold futures. Since opening in 2024, the academy has quickly become a hub for education, workforce development, and youth empowerment, serving ages 12 to 24 through hands‑on learning, mentorship, and career exploration.

A Building with a Story
KELA’s home has its own history. Once the former Brown Bank, the space has been transformed into a vibrant educational center dedicated to preparing the next generation of Kenosha’s workforce. What was once a place for financial transactions is now a place where young people invest in themselves, trading in curiosity, creativity, and ambition.

Collaboration at the Core
One of KELA’s greatest strengths is its collaborative model. The City of Kenosha works alongside Gateway Technical College, Carthage College, the University of Wisconsin–Parkside, the Kenosha Innovation Neighborhood (KIN), the Kenosha YMCA, Jockey, the Mahone Foundation, and other community partners to create meaningful educational opportunities and career pathways.
The facility also features a Teen Tech Center, giving youth access to technology, innovation tools, and creative learning experiences that help them explore digital media, engineering, and emerging tech careers.
A Growing Spotlight
KELA’s impact has drawn attention well beyond city limits. The academy has welcomed Governor Tony Evers, Lieutenant Governor Sara Rodriguez, U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin, Congressman Bryan Steil, state legislators, and Grammy‑nominated artist SaulPaul — all recognizing the vital role KELA plays in preparing young people for success.
