Finding the Keys

The Kenosha Area is unlocking a new way to experience its character and charm with the debut of Keys to Kenosha, an immersive architectural and cultural event set for Saturday, November 7, 2026, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Inspired by celebrated regional programs like Doors Open Milwaukee and Open House Chicago, this new initiative invites the public inside spaces that are often admired from the outside but rarely explored within.

Keys to Kenosha was created with a simple but powerful idea: to connect people more deeply with the places that shape the community. From historic buildings and sacred spaces to cultural institutions and hidden gems, the event offers a self-guided opportunity to step inside and discover the stories behind the doors. For longtime residents, it’s a chance to finally explore places they may have driven past hundreds of times. For visitors, it provides an authentic and engaging introduction to the spirit of Kenosha.

A committee comprised of city and county staff, local civic organizations, business professionals and a handful of very generous sponsors have been working together since the fall of 2025 to create a concept that worked for Kenosha’s footprint. With 50 participating sites identified, and plans for additional deals, activities, and add-on events, the first-year for Keys to Kenosha is sure to impress. The event is designed to be accessible and welcoming. No tickets or pre-registration are required for general admission, allowing attendees to move freely between participating locations at their own pace. Select guided tours may require advance sign-up, but the majority of experiences are open and ready to explore, free of charge.

Beyond the event itself, Keys to Kenosha is the perfect anchor for a full weekend getaway. Visitors can enjoy the city’s scenic lakefront, abundant outdoor recreation, and thriving arts scene.
